Second and third grade

During the weekend students must complete the end of story questions for the story we read in class. They have been told this and have their materials.

Second grade: Complete question 1-4 from page 45 ( reading textbook) on looseleaf. Questions and Answers. The story is the Mixed up Chameleon.

Third grade:  Complete questions 1-4 from page 175 ( reading textbook) on looseleaf. Questions and answers. The story is Trutle Bay.

This will be collected on Tuesday September 27, 2011. NO EXCUSES.

Third grade parents and students

The homework was suppose to be phonic books page 149-150, but it was brought to my attention that some students have books that look different and in some books its page 149 and 150 in others its 161-162. If your child has done the wrong page because of this, they will not be penalized.

Most importantly study for the reading test on vocabualry words from Turtle bay and the skill of authors purpose.

Second grade parent reminder

Reminders:
- Students will have an open book quiz on parts of a book. The notes were given last week and they must be in your child's reading notebook. Please make sure that if they are not complete from last week that they copy them of the blog for Friday. They are Below;

Aim: To use book parts to locate information in expository text.
Books have many different parts that help readers find information.
-Title: The name of the book.
- Table of contents: It lists chapter headings and their page numbers.
-Chapter headings: the name of the chapter which will tell you what the chapter is about.
- Guide words: These help you find words in a glossary or index.
-Glossary- gives the meaning of words from the book in ABC Order.
-Index- It’s where to find certain information in the book.

Reminder to parents

- Homework is due the next day. The following are the exceptions; If your child is absent the day the homework is given, the homework is due the day after they come back. If they are absent the day it was collected it must be given in the day they come back.  

- If homework is not given in when due based on the rules above it will result in a 0.

-If homework is to be done on Looseleaf/ worksheet it will be collected in the homework folder and it will be returned in the same way with a grade.( MUST BE IN A FOLDER).

- If your child uses mechanical pencils, please make sure that they have extra lead. Looking for lead and having to ask others , its distracting to them and others. Regular pencils are better.

-If homework is not done where its done where is suppose to be , your child will have a point deducted. 

-Classwork not completed in the right notebook or on looseleaf , due to lack of supplies will result in a deduction of points as well.

Attention: notice, to catch a person's attention means to do something that he/she will notice.

Challenge: a situiation that test a person. Ofter requiring intelligence or strengh.

Effort: hard work.

Journey: A trip.

- Write a paragraph about any topic of your choice on looseleaf. On the bottom right hand corner write the purpose of your writing. ( Inform, persuade, entertain, give directions). Make sure the homework is ready to be given in a folder.

Language Arts- complete page 14 and create 10 telling sentences and in Language Arts (L.A or ELA notebook).Use correct punctuation and capital letters. Also make sure that pages 10,11,12,and 13 are also completed in your L.A or E.L.A notebook. ALL DUE TOMORROW!!

- Students will have weekly vocabulary test.

- ELA- use ELA book (Voyages) and complete page 8 and 9 in the ELA notebook. Must write the sentence down .

Third grade
-Reading- complete page 26 from your reading workbook in the reading notebook. Must write questions and answers.


Fourth grade
- Reading- complete classwork if not completed in class.
- complete page 248 from reading workbook on looseleaf. Must give the h.w in my h.w folder.
- Answer questions 1-4 from page 624 (textbook) on looseleaf . Questions and answers. Also must be in the h.w folder.

Reminder to parents

Dear parents,

Stuidents need to have their supplies in school. It is very important that they have all their notebooks, folders, pencils, index cards , etc. Classwork is done in done in notebook, unless specified otherwise. Therefore, you child must have a reading notebook( all three grades) and a ELA notebook and Spelling notebook for second grade only. Starting tomorrow, work done in class that is not done in notebook, due to the lack of notebook, will result in zero.

Supply list for 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade

All three grades require one notebook for vocabulary.
The supplies below explain what the notebooks and folder are for each teacher and grade , as some students don’t have enough supplies maybe due to a confusion of supplies .
Second grade

-          Two folders- one for test to stay in class and one for the student to keep for religion work.

Monday September 12, 2011 - Homework

Second grade - Define the vocabulary  words from the story , " The mixed up Chameleon" on ondex cards. The words are located on page 14 and the definition are in the glossary.
* One side of the index card has the word and the other side the definition.

Fourth grade- Define the vocabualry words from the story , " Moon walk", on index cards. The words can be found on page 610. One side of the index card is the word and the other is the definition. Also complete page 243 from your workbook on looseleaf. List the details and then the conclusion. Looseleaf must be in folder.

Third grade- Define the vocabulary words from " Turtle Bay", on index cards. The words can be found on page 156. One side of the index card is the word and the other is the definition.
