Reading fourth grade project

The fourth graders have read the story "Because of Winn-Dixie" and also watched the movie in class. They have written notes and discuss the characteristics that each character has. There are two parts to this project.
Students were given the chance to pick to characters that they would be interested in working on ( some never wrote their choice). They have been told what character they have.

First part: Students will create a representation of the character. ( they have seen examples in class) . This may be through a a 3D creation, a diagram, a costume or any other creative way. Simply pasting pictures on a poster board is not accepted. The students must be able to explain how their project relates to the character.

Second part: Students will define and write 5 facts about the real life issue that accompanies the character. After the facts write what did you learn after researching the facts. This part will be written down in the format attached and read aloud in class. Parents are advised to help your child find this information as there may be some explicit information.

The following are the characters and the topic;
Winn-Dixie/ Animal shelter and their dog policies
Opal/ Children in single parent homes
Preacher/ Information on preacher
Mother/ safe haven
Ms.Franny/ WWII
Gloria/ alcoholism
Otis/ Laws on hitting a police officer
Amanda/ Death by drowning in children.
Dewberry Boys/ coping with grief and loss
Cutie pie/ History on Candy and candy companies
The landlord/ information on elderly with disabilities

This is due March 1, 2012 ( Two weeks from now) This will NOT be worked on at school. All work must be done at home. There will be no excuses for this assignment not being done, therefore a zero will be given if not completed.

- Others will be added soon.

Fourth grade

Fourth grade has a questions to answer in 3 paragraphs of 6 sentences each. Using correct grammar. The questions was given to the students  in class . Its due to tomorrow on looseleaf.

Reminders

Students have to come to school prepared with school supplies. These supplies include pencils, lead ( for mechanical pencils), erasers and looseleaf. When students come unprepared they waste their class time asking for supplies as well as everyone else s'. Its also not fair to those students that are always lending their supplies to those who never come prepared.
