Fourth grade students and parents

Forth graders ,

I apologize for the delay, due somethings out my control I was unable to post the work for The Long Winter book. Hopefully you have been working on the social studies, if not you should get started. Below is the work for reading.

Chapter 8

- What made her feel this way?
- Why was she dreading going to school?

Chapter 9
- Describe Laura and Carrie;s first day of school.
- Describe the trip home after school dismissed

Chapter 10
-What was Almanzo good at making?
- . What did he think about the age requirement for homesteading?
- What concerns did the Wilder brothers have about the weather?

Chapter 11
- Who did Pa bring home with him?
- What did he leave with Mary when he left?
- What would they do with it?

Parents ,

Below you will find the link to the common core state test draft, as the first common core test to be administered will be the one your child takes in April 16-18. The test is given over the course of three days and consist of three parts;
DAY ONE : 5 passages with 30 multiple choice questions
DAY TWO: 1 passage with seven multiple choice questions and then two passages with 3 short response questions( required introductory sentence and 2 in text details to support the answer using the text) and one extended response ( essay using in text details to support the answer)
DAY THREE : 3 passages and 5 short response questions ( see above for description  and 1 extended response ( see above for description)

Each day the students will be given 70 minutes to complete the task.

Throughout the year , students have been working with answering all the types of questions mentioned above, especially the short response  of which their is a vast amount and requires attention to detail in using in text details to answer the questions and not the students opinion. Students need to have sharpened number 2 pencils for this test. Please make sure you child has at least three ,sharpened number 2 pencils with good erasers. The students and I went through the link below , but you should have your child review and read throughout the passages. I hope it is clear why the readings this year have increased in level from last year as the readings presented in the draft are at a much higher level than the previous state test. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask as soon as school resumes on April 8.

Enjoy the rest of the break!
