FOR DECEMBER 23, 2013

The last day of school before Christmas Break is Monday December 23.

- The school will have Lessons and Carols at 8:30am.

- Students may dress up.

- Our second grade class will have a small party with snacks( no pizza because they are leaving at 1pm.)

- Students know which one is bringing cookies, chips, drinks and cups.

- Whatever is left over, they will take home.

- Dismissal is at 1pm.

- THERE IS NO AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM !!

LESSON PLANS FOR WEEK OF DECEMBER 16-20

REMINDERS
1. Unit exams are this week. The schedule is in the post below.

2. Make sure your child has pencils, erasers, sharpeners and looseleaf. Looking for these delays the start of class.

3. Second grade needs to bring plastic bags to pack up their books this Friday. If you want your child to bring specific books home for the break let them know so Friday they take them home. Once the bags are in the lockers, they will not come back out.

UNIT 2 EXAMS

SOCIAL STUDIES

SECOND GRADE
- Study notes and vocabulary words  starting with maps and ending with community types.
- Textbook Living in Communities unit 2

THIRD GRADE
- Study notes and quiz.
- Textbook unit 2. Test will cover the Anasaasi, Jamestown and San Francisco.

FOURTH GRADE
- Study notes and quiz
- Textbook chapter 3 lesson 3( Iroquois confederacy) to chapter 4 lesson 3 ( British Colony).

WRITING

- The writing exam will include students reading a text provided during the test and creating a written response to it on looseleaf.
- Students NEED LOOSELEAF AND PENCILS.

LESSON PLANS FOR WEEK OF DECEMBER 9-13

REMINDERS FOR WEEK OF DECEMBER 9-13
1. Students must have their own sharpened pencils,. looseleaf , erasers, etc. Stopping class to find supplies for someone is distracting for everyone.

2. This week students will be taking the  interim exam on Thursday and Friday.

3. Second grade will be working on a reading response to Frog and Toad All Year.

4. Fourth grade will be working on a response to I survived: The Japanese Tsunami.

5. Some of the vocabulary are still being used and they are for unit 3.

6.  The unit 2 exams will be the week of December 16-20.

7. The writing exams in the content areas and the social studies exam are on December 16.

8.  Since on December 16 , students have for me two writing exams (one writing for reading and one writing in social studies ) and the social studies unit exam. One of the writing exams may overlap to Tuesday December 17.

9. The writing exams do not require any type of studying.Just come prepared with looseleaf, pencils and ready to read the text being used for the exam and complete all the sections.

10. On December 17, students will take the Religion and Science exam.

11. On December 18, students will take the Reading and ELA Exam.

12. On December 19, students will take the mathematics exam.

13. We will be packing up our classrooms for the Christmas break on Friday December 20th. Children need to start bringing bags for when we pack up. If your child will not be here on the 20th, please make sure they tell me so they pack up on the last day they will be in school. The books they need for the break for me for second grade will be sent home on Thursday December 19th.



HOMEWORK FOR DECEMBER 11, 2013
FOURTH GRADE
- Use the first four chapters of I Survived : The Japanese Tsunami, 2011 and create a timeline. Only one event per chapters, so make sure to pick the most important. It does not need many details, just like the ones read in SS class today. On looseleaf.
- Read pages 86-89 from SS textbook. Be prepared to discuss tomorrow. Understand the different between Latitude and longitude.

THIRD GRADE
- Read Papa Tells Chita a Story pages 22-28 and answer questions # 2 and 3 from page 29.
- Ask 10 people ( any ten: family members or friends) what fruit they like the  best between Strawberries, bananas, oranges, mango and pineapples. They must choose only one and write down how many people picked each fruit. Your numbers must add to 10.

SECOND GRADE
- Go back to chapter Surprise and Christmas Eve and write 3 sentences for each chapter explaining what happened in the chapter. Label the looseleaf with Surprise and summarize that chapter and then skip a line and write Christmas Eve and then the summary.
