REMINDERS AND LESSON PLANS FOR WEEK OF DECEMBER 1-5

REMINDERS
1. There will be a reading quiz ( solely on comprehension) on Friday for all three grades.
2. Social Studies vocabulary quiz for fourth grade on Wednesday December 3 on some of the  words from pages 90.
3. The map of the United States is Due December 2. Students were told about this last week. Make sure all ten components are completed.
4. Social Studies vocabulary quiz for fourth grade on remainder of words from page 90 on Thursday December 4.
5.Social Studies vocabulary quiz for third  grade on remainder of words on Thursday December 3.


HOMEWORK FOR MONDAY DECEMBER 1,2014

-SECOND GRADE: Copy the vocabulary words with definition below into their social studies notebook.

-THIRD GRADE: Copy the vocabulary words with definition below into their social studies notebook.

-FOURTH GRADE: Define all the vocabulary words from page 96 and 100 in your social studies notebook. Use the textbook glossary to find the words.


HOMEWORK FOR WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 3, 2014
SECOND GRADE: Reading worksheet on identifying main idea and supporting details.Phonics pages:67-68

THIRD GRADE: Phonics pages: 175-177 (DUE THURSDAY) and reading sheet(DUE FRIDAY)

FOURTH GRADE:
1. Complete the book on New Netherlands. This has been an in class project that is due Thursday December 4. It requires information about New Netherland in sequential order with images to accompany.
2. Review vocabulary words from page 90. remainders of words will be quizzed tomorrow.
3. Read social studies textbook page 96-97 and answer the following questions:

           1. Why did the British king send a note to Peter Stuyvesant?
           2. Explain the reasons the British wanted control over New Netherland?
           3. Why did the Dutch surrender? Why were there no shots fired?


THIRD GRADE VOCABULARY WORDS
1. legends: a traditional story coming from the past.
2. folktales:stories passed down from one generation to another usually by telling.
3.biographies: a detailed description of someone's life written by someone
4. Mexico: Hispanic country in the southern tip of North America
5. Mexico City: capital of Mexico.

SECOND GRADE VOCABULARY WORDS
1. democracy: form of government ruled by the people.
2. government: the system of laws and the people who make them.
3. citizens: people who live in a certain place.
4. major: the person who is in charge of a city.
5. governor: The person who is in charge of a  state.
6. president: the  person in charge of country.
7. laws:  rules that everyone must follow.

HOMEWORK FOR NOVEMBER 24

SECOND GRADE:
-Reading comprehension sheet. DUE TOMORROW.

THIRD GRADE:
-Review social studies vocabulary words from pages 271 and 278 from Comparing Communities textbook. Quiz tomorrow on 5 of those words.
-Write a six sentence paragraph on Moscow using the key vocabulary words. Describe the information your have learned in sequence. Make sure to follow grammar rules and reread.

FOURTH GRADE:
- Visual Clues worksheet for inferencing.



REMINDERS

FOURTH GRADE READING HOMEWORK - DUE MONDAY NOVEMBER 17, 2014

Fourth grade students should be reading EVERY NIGHT for at LEAST 30 MINUTES. Therefore they are being given the following assignment for the weekend.


Read The Long Winter - FRIDAY
- The rest of chapter 11 "Pa Goes to Volga" and answer the following questions
1. Who is Mr.Edwards? What are his feelings about taxes? Use details to support your answer.

Read The Long Winter -SATURDAY
- Chapter 12-"Alone" and do the following;
1. Research online for a blizzard that has occurred in NYC before. Read about it and write a paragraph describing it. Make sure to mention the place, date, how long it lasted and the effects of it.


Read The Long Winter- SUNDAY
- Chapter 13-"We'll Weather the Blast" and answer the following questions;
1. Explain the sibling rivalry that happened in this chapter.

REMINDERS FOR WEEK OF NOVEMBER 12-14

REMINDERS
1. Second grade search for information of Joan Miro- the painter who inspired our last art work. Just basic facts, date of birth, where he lived, what made him famous, etc. This is not due till November 17.

2. Report card night is November 21 from 1-7 pm. There is a time limit. Please do not arrive later than 6:40 pm.


HOMEWORK FOR NOVEMBER 13, 2014

FOURTH GRADE
-Read The Long Winter : the rest of chapter 9- we left off on page 86 and answer the following questions
1. How is Laura getting use to attending school in town? Use details from the text to support your answer.
2. How do the children get home from school during the blizzard?
3. Using the description of  the classroom from page 80 draw a picture of what it looks like inside. Label the things you draw according to what the book says.

-Read the Long Winter Chapter 10-Three Days' Blizzard and answer the following questions.
1. Explain who  using details.


THIRD GRADE
- Reread and revise the paragraph on Kenya that you started/finished in your notebook. Make corrections and then rewrite it on looseleaf with full heading.

SECOND GRADE
- Finish your social studies work. On the white paper draw a picture of what you learned about Native Americans. Then on the index card write two sentences explaining what you learned. Must match the image on the paper.

-FOURTH GRADE:
Read the Long Winter chapter 7 Indian Warning and answer the following questions:
1. What is the predictions the Indian makes at the town store?
2. What is pa's opinion about the prediction?
3. Is the Indian's prediction supported by any other clues in the text so far? Explain.

Read the Long Winter Chapter 8 Settled in Town and answer the following questions:
1. How do the Ingalls adapt to living in town at the store?
2. Who else is living in town besides the Ingalls?
