REMINDERS AND LESSON PLANS FOR WEEK OF DECEMBER 15-19

REMINDERS

FOR ALL
-Due to schedule changes on Friday December 12 - the reading quizzes were not given. See below for the quiz schedule this week
-Christmas Break homework will be sent home Thursday. 

FOR SECOND GRADE
-There will be a reading and vocabulary quiz for second grade on Monday December 15
-Second grade quiz on using a glossary and the same words from this week on December 17
-Homework/projects are not accepted late.
-Second grade song for Friday- CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO WITH LYRICS- practice at home
-Second Grade bring in bags to pack up books by Wednesday.
-Christmas Party on Friday- please send in $3 and something else based on what table you sit in. 
Table 1 and 2- chips (one bag per person)
Table 3 and 6- cookies
Table 4 and 5- juice or water (one box each)- Please no soda. 

FOR THIRD GRADE
-Reading quiz ( solely on comprehension) on December 16 for third and fourth grade. 
-Third grade social studies quiz on Mexico on December 17.
-THIRD GRADE PROJECT- create a time line on Mexico using the homework and the sheets given in class. You can be creative as to how you want this to look, the images below can help you guide yourself. Make sure the events are in sequence order. This is due Thursday December 18. If the homework sheet is not attached to the project, you will loose 5 points.
-Social studies words from last week are still being used plus;Aztecs, Guadalupe, Juan Diego, Tepeyac and Tilma.


FOR FOURTH GRADE
-Reading quiz ( solely on comprehension) on  December 16 for third and fourth grade. 
-Fourth grade social quiz on British NY on  December 17.

SECOND GRADE:Study reading vocabulary words, social studies words and how to use a glossary.Also practice your song for Friday.

THIRD GRADE:Study social studies notes/vocabulary words. Review main idea and supporting details. Also work on project. 


FOURTH GRADE:Study social studies notes/vocabulary words.

REMINDERS AND LESSON PLANS FOR WEEK OF DECEMBER 8-12

REMINDERS
1. There will be a reading quiz ( solely on comprehension) on Friday for third and fourth grade.
2. There will be a reading and vocabulary quiz for second grade on Friday.
3. Reading  vocabulary quiz for third grade on Wednesday December 10 .
4. Homework/projects are not accepted late.
5. Fourth grade map a month will be due on December 18. If you plan to go on vacation before then , make sure to hand in before then. If not in by 18, it will result in a zero.
6. Third grade reading vocabulary quiz on December 10
7.Fourth grade social quiz on British NY on Monday December 15. 
8.Third grade social studies quiz on Mexico on Monday December 15.
9. Second grade quiz on using a glossary and the same words from this week. 





HOMEWORK FOR MONDAY DECEMBER 8, 2014
-THIRD: copy the reading words from below into reading notebook.


-FOURTH: define the social studies vocabulary words found in the lesson plan below using the textbook. Copy the reading vocabulary words with definition into the reading notebook.

-SECOND:copy the reading words from below into reading notebook. ( most students finished this in class) Also complete the two worksheets (1. President seal 2. laws)


HOMEWORK FOR WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 10,2014

-FOURTH: social studies textbook page 99 #1-4 on looseleaf questions and answers. 
Retake of quiz on the Netherlands through the British take over tomorrow.

-THIRD: Complete the timeline sheet on events in Mexico using the notes given in class, the textbook and any legitimate source you want . Use as many boxes as you want and make sure one event per box. 


-SECOND: Use one of the following reading vocabulary words (dusk, deserts, burrow or damage) and on a looseleaf with full heading , write the word, the definition and draw an image (picture) that describes what it means.

WEEKLY READING VOCABULARY WORDS
FOURTH GRADE
1. informational text: a type of text that gives you information about a topic.
2. native: born in a particular place.
3.South America: a continent below North American. Home to Hispanic countries.
4.dormant: not active
5.cultivate:prepare and use (land) for crops or gardening. to try to acquire.
6. Spain: a Hispanic country located in the continent of Europe. 



THIRD GRADE
1. main idea: the most important idea in a text. What the text is mostly about.
2. supporting details: details from the text that support /justify the main idea.
3.personal essay: a text that is written to either inform or entertain. 
4.purpose: the reason behind doing something. 
5. Authors purpose: the reason an author writes a text. Inform, persuade or entertain.
6 inform: give information about a topic. Mostly non-fiction.
7.entertain: to cause joy or excitement
8.homophones: words that sound the same but have different meaning. 
9.plain:a large area of land that is mostly flat or something that doesn't have anything extra on it. 



SECOND GRADE: 

Inventions: a unique new or improved item.
Dusk: early evening.
Damage: to harm or destroy
burrow: a hole or tunnel in the ground made by a small animal.
deserts: a large area of land where little rain, water, plants and trees.
