REMINDERS AND VOCABULARY WORDS FOR WEEK OF NOVEMBER 30- DECEMBER

REMINDERS

1.. HOMEWORK SCHEDULE is as follow;
          Monday and Wednesday : Mrs.Bagley and Mr.Badia
          Tuesday and Thursday : Ms. Saville

2. VOCABULARY WORDS will be given and written during class time.

3. EXTENDED DAY: Fourth grade will stay on Tuesday for math. Third grade will on Tuesday for ELA.

4. EXAM: This week students will be taking reading quizzes on Thursday.

5.MAP A MONTH was given today November 30 and it is due December 17. If you will leave on vacation before then , please hand in before your last day. None will be accepted in January 2016.

SECOND GRADE:
-Answer the following question using the article on page 40 of the Ready NY book on looseleaf
1. Who was Betsy Ross?
2.Why did George Washington want there to be a flag?
3.Why are there 13 stars in the flag?

THIRD GRADE:
-Answer the though question for the "Whose Picasso Art These?" on looseleaf.

FOURTH GRADE:
-Finish the first page of your reading science Journal- Reread your inferences (second column) and find details in the article that support your Inference, write the text details in the third Column ( use quotation marks.

-HW: Social Studies textbook page 133 #1-2 Questions and answers on looseleaf.
-Review vocabulary words for reading quiz tomorrow: sequence, key details, hollow, muscles, quills



THIRD GRADE:
-HW: Though Questions for today's Achieve 3000 article "Good Night, Sleeper Trains" on looseleaf.
-Review vocabulary words for reading quiz tomorrow: wonder, notice, culture, custom, generation ,tradition.



FOURTH GRADE
-HW: Complete though question from today's Achieve 3000 article on the Dutch.
-Review vocabulary words for reading quiz tomorrow: inferences, defense, mechanism, researcher, paraphrase, contorts, impersonate.

REMINDERS FOR THE WEEKEND!

Hope everyone has enjoyed their Thanksgiving, spending time with family and relaxing. Now that you have eaten your turkey , it's time to start your reading assignments. You need to access Achieve 3000 and use looseleaf.

I have received a few emails from Achieve of students needing their password, although I can receive the notice and can find your password, I have no way to get it you, unless you email the school and then it gets forwarded to me , which may not happen in a timely manner. If you don't have the password, please send in note with your child and I will write the password down for them. Second grade has their username and password in their homework folder.

SECOND GRADE
1.Read the weekend article (will appear Saturday and Sunday) "Walking School Buses" and answer the following questions:
A. What is the walking school buses?
B. According to the article, how have these groups helped students?


THIRD GRADE
1.Read the weekend article (will appear Saturday and Sunday)- "Made in Japan By Hand" and answer the following questions:
A. In three sentences explain what the article is about.
B. How would reading this article help a tourist?


FOURTH GRADE
1.Read the weekend article ( will appear Saturday and Sunday)- One Big Critter and answer the following questions:
A. As the scientist studied the fossils, what did they learn?
B. How do the scientist explain the idea that the fossil was found in the Iowa River but belonged to an animal that lived in the ocean?

REMINDERS FOR WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 25


FOR EVERYONE
- There will be mass tomorrow at 9 am. During this honors would be given out. Dismissal is at 3 pm and there is no after school or extended day. All Students must go home at 3 pm.

SECOND GRADE
- Tomorrow, you can dress up for school. If you can bring a snack, please do. We will share them in the afternoon.

THIRD GRADE
-CLICK HERE FOR ARTICLE NEEDED TO COMPLETE WORK ON THE MAYFLOWER
-New Map of the Month will be given out tomorrow.
-Last day to collect money for the books needed. I will complete the order this evening, so we will have the books for Monday.

6.REPORT CARD DAY - NOVEMBER 20 FROM 1-7 pm. Only 5 minutes per parent to accommodate all parents. Any specific questions about certain work, quizzes , etc needs to be address at separate teacher meetings.

BOOKS FOR MODULE 2

FOURTH GRADE
- This module would not require any text to be bought. Texts will be distributed in class.

THIRD GRADE
-This module we will be working with various text about countries and their culture. As a whole class we will work with the Magic Tree House #27: The Dragon of the Red Dawn. This book cost $3 , if you choose to have me order the book (which I suggest so all students get their book at the same time).
-The students will also work on reading another Magic Tree house book, but this one will be grouped by level of the students reading ability. This book ranges from $3-$5. In order to not post the children s name , I have informed the students on the price of their books. Some students need $6.50, while others need $ 8.75. Please send in the money by Tuesday.

MODULE 1 ASSESSMENTS FOR READING AND SOCIAL STUDIES

As you know this week, students will be taking module 1 exams in all subjects, these are to cover everything we have done so far in the school year. Look below for what you should be studying with your child. Besides the notebooks and books stated below also use the weekly quizzes. The reading exam will not have repeats of the same text or questions, so use the story to practice skills of comprehension and going back to find answers or evidence.

Fourth grade 
Reading
- all the vocabulary words
- use of the RAPP method to answer short response questions

Social studies
-all vocabulary words in the notebook
-all notes in the notebook
- geography skills and maps on pages G4-G11 of textbook
- If your notes are not clear or complete, use the textbook and study the information in chapters 1-3
-Information on Native Americans/ Iroquois learned in both reading and social studies

Third Grade 
Reading
-all vocabulary words
