FOURTH GRADE END OF MODULE PROJECT FOR BOTH READING AND ELA

Overview:
In this module fourth grade has learned about the Haudenosaunee people (a group of Native Americans from New York State). To complete our module students are creating their a wampum belt ( although the real wampum belts are made out of purple and white beads, students are drawing them out on paper).

Over the past week we have worked on determining themes to connect to the Haudenosaunee and come up with symbols that represent any aspect of  what we have learned about them. Students began their draft on three symbols they plan to use on their belt and what they mean. I gave them back feedback on this and some even had the chance to move on to their final piece.

The task:

Create a wampum belt drawing on the paper provided with three symbols that represent something about the Haudenosaunee (remember you have two articles from my class and the book from Ms. Saville's class  to use for help). On the drawing there should not be any writing.

On looseleaf, write a 6-8 sentence paragraph explaining your wampum belt, the choices of symbols you used and  what part of the Haudenosaunee it represents. This part requires evidence from either the book  or the articles "Birth of the Haudenosaunee" and "Thanksgiving Address".

Grading:
I will grade the wampum belt for organization, creativity neatness  and the written component for connecting the wampum symbols to what we have learned. Ms. Saville will be grading the same written piece for proper grammar and all written skills taught in her class.

Due date: This is due on Wednesday November 9th
