12-20-17

Dear parents,

Lessons and Carols will be held tomorrow morning at 8:30 AM in the church. Parents are welcomed to join us.

Dismissal is at 3:15 PM.

Children are to bring the following items for tomorrow's Christmas party.

All students $3 for pizza and then;

Table #1 should bring in either a pack of juice boxes or pack of small water bottles 

Table #2  should bring in cookies, cupcakes or donuts

Table #3 Should bring in chips

Mrs.coello and I ask that the students wear DRESS UP clothes (no jeans or sneakers) and for the clothes have red or green if possible. Also bring in a bag for students to store their books in the room during the break.

NATIVE AMERICAN PROJECT FOR SECOND GRADE

This Native American Project is due December 12 and Presentation for parents are December 13

Use the following link to get information on a Native American Group.

 Choose any Native American Tribe and then on a poster board ( No need for an expensive board) put information explaining the following topics.

-Where did the Tribe live?
-What did the tribe live in?
-What language did the tribe speak?
-What forms of transport did the tribe use?

-What clothes did they wear?
-Fun Facts

Include pictures of the Tribe ( Write a caption for the image- you must know what the image is of).


Grading:

Religion: Review chapter 5 and complete the end of chapter 5 quiz at the end of the chapter.

HOMEWORK FOR WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 22- HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!


ALL SECOND GRADERS received a yellow index card places in their homework folders (in the front clear pocket), if they didn't have a homework folder with a clear front pocket, I gave them one and labeled it with their name. The index card has the pearsonrealize website along with their username and password. On the back side of the index card its the frontrow website with the classcode. The classcode will give them access to both Math and ELA and both Mr.Badia and I can see what they have done.


THIRD GRADERS also have their usernames and passwords for pearson realize and their classcode for frontrow.



SECOND GRADE: Using pearsonrealize.com-  read "Webs and Other Catchers" and answer questions #1-2 from the back inside cover of the online text. Answer the questions on looseleaf. This is Due Monday November 27.

Students Log in are found in an index card in their homework folder. Steps to log in:
1.Click on the following link :pearsonrealize.com
2.Click "sign in"
3."enter username and password ( all lower case and no spaces).
4.Click on "My Work"
5.Next to where it says "Webs and other Catchers" click on "Get Started"
6.Click on "Web and Other Catchers:.
7.Click on "Open in new window"
8.The text will open- It will look just like the actual book and it has audio available if need be.
9.Read the whole text and then answer questions #1 and 2 found in the inside back cover. Answer must be on looseleaf. Copy the questions and answer.


THIRD GRADE: Research information about a non-fiction topic. It cannot be a person. Read the list of topics below and choose one:

-one animal ( not a group) and focus on a specific idea about the animal. For example; the extinction of Elephants.
-the cause of leave color changes
-healthy eating
-a new technology device that helps us in our everyday lives
-How do natural disaster form and what do they do? (ex.earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis)
-Healthy living (eating and keeping active)
-Pollution in our environment (be specific, for example; oil spills)
-composting
-Weather changes (the cause of snow, rain etc.)
-The sun's rotation/ revolution

*Print out the information or bring in the text that you will be using on Tuesday November 28th.

SECOND GRADE:

ELA: Readers Writers Journal page 49 (top only) The directions are to write 3 questions about the topic we read about in pages 14-17 from Friends Around the World. The Topics were food, food market and sports.

Social Studies: Do page 39 from Social Studies textbook, section "Using Vocabulary" # 3,4,6,8 and 9. Copy the sentence and fill in the missing words. Do this in the notebook.

Religion: Review chapter 8 from the textbook and the notes from notebook on the Bible- Quiz will be on Wednesday



THIRD GRADE:

ELA: Readers Writers Journal page 65- Write one sentence with every word.

ELA: Copy the definitions to the following words:exasperated, grove, frustrated, underside. The words are defined in the vocabulary link.

Religion: Copy the 2 review questions found at the end of the religion quiz, into the back of the religion notebook. Also get the quiz sign and return back tomorrow.

REMINDERS FOR SECOND AND THIRD

There is ELA homework due Monday November 13.

Many second graders and some third graders are not coming in with sharpened pencils or any pencils at all. It is very important that students come with pencils, so they could can start their work when they arrive in their classes.

Papers have been sent home periodically, quizzes get signed and then I collect them and placed them in the folder I collected. Then that will be going back home at report card time. Classwork/homework does not need to be sent back to school.

Please remove the homework/classwork from their folders (second grade cleaned their desk today and papers are in their book bags).

On Tuesday there will be a religion quiz on the last chapter covered for both second and third grade.

THIRD GRADE WRITING ASSIGNMENT- DUE DATE EXTENDED



Writing
Directions: Read the prompt. Write your response on looseleaf or type and print (If you want and can- not mandatory to type).

In Thunder Cake, the narrator’s grandmother goes with her to do a number of tasks. What would have happened if the grandmother had sent the girl out all by herself? In two paragraphs, rewrite the part of the story where the little girl goes to see old Kick Cow. Show what might have happened if the little girl had gone alone. Use dialogue and descriptive details, and show a clear order of events. Try to create an effective ending for your scene.

REMINDERS FOR WEEK OF OCTOBER 30- NOVEMBER 3

Second grade:

-Review features of communities for tomorrow. Must know at least three important facts about one type of community. Options are urban/city, suburb or rural.

- Review what are two things that all Catholics share and celebrate.

- On Tuesday October 31, the students will have a Halloween celebration. Students may come in their costumes.

- Bring two bags of candy (one for the younger kids who will be trick or treating and one to share with the class. If you are bringing premade goody bags ( no need for a second bag of candy).

- Also please send $3 for pizza and the following based on table.

Group 1(close to wall): cookies

Group 2 (middle): juice or water ( individual- no soda please)

Group 3 (near lockers): chips

-3rd grade Religion: Review religion chapter 3.

3rd grade ELA: Readers Writers Journal (RWJ) page 38 (top only). If you do not have the book the question is : On a separate sheet of paper, write a brief narrative that introduces a character, problem, explains the character's solution to the problem, and provides a sense of closure. (Just like the example we did in class). It should be 5-8 sentences and it should not be written without stating, the characters are, the problem is etc.

-2nd grade Religion: Review chapter 3 for quiz tomorrow.

-3rd grade ELA: Start a story board where you draw three images along with three sentences. These three sentences are the beginning, middle and end of your story where, you had fear and then you overcame it and became courageous. THINK ABOUT THE STORY BOARD I CREATED IN CLASS THIS AFTERNOON.

2. VOCABULARY WORDS - Words are given in class with definition, but they will be found in the links at the end of this post, in case any student has missed the words by the end of Monday. Words will be added as we learn new vocabulary words.

3.MATERIALS: ALL students need at least 3 sharpened pencils. There is a sharpener in the classroom, but it must be used in the morning, not throughout class.
