REMINDER, HOMEWORK, LESSONS AND VOCABULARY WORDS FOR WEEK OF FEBRUARY 27-MARCH 3

REMINDERS


1.HOMEWORK SCHEDULE is as follow;
          Monday and Wednesday : Mrs. Bagley and Mr. Badia
          Tuesday and Thursday : Ms. Saville
*Tuesday Third grade will be receiving homework in either reading, science or social studies.

2. VOCABULARY WORDS - Words are given in class with definition, but they could be found in the links at the end of this post, in case any student has missed the words.


3.MATERIALS: Second graders need at least 3 sharpened pencils. 


4.Map of the Month: Map of the continent of Africa was given on Friday February 10 and it is due at the very end of the month.(DUE FEBRUARY 27)

5.UPCOMING EVENTS:

-Tuesday February 27- Superkids Day (prek-2nd grade), Hippy day (3-8th grade)- Map of the month Due for 3rd and 4th grade. 
-Wednesday March 1, Ash Wednesday. Mass led by the school children at 10:30 am
-Thursday February 2, Dr.Seuss Birthday- dress up as Dr.Sess Character 
-Friday February 3, First Friday of Stations of the Cross, Progress reports, MAP assessment and I -Ready Assessment going home. 

6.Scholastic books: Flyers will be sent home periodically for students/parents to order books that they want. If any of the books we will need during the year are listed there I would ask for that book specifically. Otherwise it is a personal choice if you want to order. If you want to order books outside of the time I place  orders you can CLICK HERE TO BE DIRECTED TO SCHOLASTIC WEBSITE and then click on yellow section to connect with teacher and enter class code: LJ8KK. 8. Students in third and fourth grade have been using Google Classroom very often, please help them remember their username and password. Login information should also be written at home in a safe places along with the login information for Achieve, IXL and I-ready. Although second grade is only using this sometimes, they also have usernames and passwords.

Passwords: everyone's password was set to olqmnyc1, but it might be different if your child changed it.

SECOND GRADE:
Science - You are too copy the notes below and fill in the blanks. The following are the choices to fill in the blanks. There are extra choices, so some won't be used. 
Words: sun, earth , Revolution, rotation, winter, tilt, summer, axis, fall, equator, spring, year 

Reading- review vocabulary words, quiz will be tomorrow. 

Throughout the______as our small blue planet orbits the ____,many parts of the Earth experience changing seasons. The warm Spring brings new flowers and young animals. This is followed by a hot _______filled with vacations, hikes, and outdoor swimming. Following Summer is another warm season known as ______,where leaves turn beautiful shades of reds and browns before _______from their trees. Finally, after all of these warmer seasons, comes one that is cold, wet, and dry, known as __________.

THIRD GRADE:
Science-Achieve 3000, read and complet the activity on the following articles; "A Letter Comes Home" and "A New Da Vinci Code"

Reading: review vocabulary words , quiz will be tomorrow.

Social studies: As stated on blog Map of the Month is due tomorrow, the end of the month.

FOURTH GRADE:
Social studies-using your old textbook, which should be at home read the sections on the American Revolution where the Continental Congress and Declaration of Independence are mentioned and answer the following questions in your notebook. 
1. What happened at the Continental Congress of September 1774?
2.Explain the importance of the Declaration of Independence. 

*use complete sentences and evidence to explain your answer. When done , reread to make sure it is correct , makes senses and words are spelled correctly as well as use of capital letters is correct as well.

Reading: review words , quiz will be tomorrow. 

*Map of the month is due tomorrow. As stated on the blog, it is due at the end of month and tomorrow is the last day of the month. 



HOMEWORK FOR March 1, 2017

SECOND GRADE:
Reading: Click here for the reading passage and questions- you may print and answer (if you want and can , not necessary. If you do it on looseleaf; write heading , number the side and then put the letter answer only , except for #5 , which requires more writing. 


THIRD GRADE: 
Reading:Complete a WHOLE lesson on I-ready. I can see what lesson you did , if it was completed and what you scored. 

Social Studies:If you did not do Monday's Achieve homework, completed it today. Look above at February 28's homework. 


FOURTH GRADE:
Reading:Complete a WHOLE lesson on I-ready. I can see what lesson you did , if it was completed and what you scored. 

Unfortunately, I was disappointing in seeing that the  last I-ready homework was  only completed by  about 8 students. This homework is to help them improved in skills that they need help in. It is beneficial for their reading skills, that are required to be great readers and thinkers long after their current grade, teacher, school or state exam.

QUIZZES: Quizzes were put on hold due to the administration of the I-ready and MAP assessment. Reading Quiz will for all grades will be administer on Friday February 24. Then next week Monday February 27, there will be a social studies quiz for 3rd and 4th  and a Science quiz on Thursday March 2 for 2nd and 3rd grade.

Science: Answer the following questions on looseleaf
1.What is a revolution? How long does it take?

2. What is the difference between a rotation and a revolution?


THIRD GRADE: 
Reading: 

1.Complete the Lon PoPo questions packet for pages 12-21 using the story in the yellow textbook.

2.Copy and answer the following question on looseleaf: How have you experienced freedom by being obedient to your teachers, your parents, and others in positions of authority?

Vocabulary to help ( do not need to copy these down)
obedient: obeying someone; following rules, listening to what needs to be done.
authority:person who is in charge; has a power. Ex. leader of a group, owner of a company/business


FOURTH GRADE:
Reading: Complete the sequence of events charts (when, what, why) using the article "Revolutionary War". EVERYONE was given one about two weeks ago and instructed to keep in their folders.

AFRICAN AMERICAN HERITAGE PRESENTATION- 4TH REMINDER

African American Heritage Presentation is due Tuesday February 21. The names of the person your child is doing is posted on the link below and was posted on a post on the morning of  Saturday February 11. The directions are on Google classroom and have also been posted since the morning of Saturday February 11th.. If you are done before Tuesday you may submit work and I will check and give feedback.

Some students have already submitted their slide shows and have received feedback as to what to fix. Everyone who have submitted as of now Saturday February 18 @ 10:25pm) have received comments on their slides. Some have received their grade too.

Please remember you have to submit the presentation and so it will be marked as done. This does not prevent me seeing it and returning back to you. Then you can resubmit with corrections if that is the case for you.

Even students who have not submitted have had their slides looked at and feedback was sent.


Also do not forget you are NOT reading from the computer when you present,, so therefore you must note down and practice what you plan to say in order (sequence) about the slides you have.

-Third grade is NOT allowed to wear play clothes tomorrow as per Mr.Woods. Must wear uniform.

-There is NO SCHOOL on Friday February 17

Reading: Read and answer the questions using the text "The Hen That Laid the Golden Egg"


THIRD GRADE: 
Social Studies: On loose leaf write three important facts that you have learned about Italy from our work in the last two weeks (in social studies and in reading Remember Carnival at Candlelight is about Italy). If you do not remember anything, then you may look up 3 important facts from online.


Science:Complete the worksheet received in class (just the front of the sheet with the image of the pots).


FOURTH GRADE:
Reading:Complete a lesson on I-ready. (You must complete the whole lesson, remember I can see the lesson you did, the date you did it on  and the score you receive)

-Monday February 13 is half a day due to staff meeting. Dismissal at 12. After school still in session.

-Tuesday February 14 there is a Valentine Day's presentation. Students need to wear pink or red.

-Friday  February 17, school will be closed due to Religious Conference

-Monday February 20, there is no school due to President's Day

Day and Night : How does earth rotate?
-Earth spins, or rotates, like a top.
-Earth always spins in the same direction.
-Earth's axis in an imaginary line that goes from the North Pole to the South Pole.

What is the sun like?
As the earth rotates, the sun shines on it.
The sun in the closest star to earth.

How Heat Travels
-The temperature of an object is a measure of how hot or cold an object is.
-Heat is a form of energy that makes matter warmer.
-Temperature is measured in units called degrees.
-Friction, the rubbing of two objects together causes heat (rise in temperature)
