REMINDERS, LESSON PLANS, HOMEWORK AND VOCABULARY WORDS FOR WEEK OF MAY 29-JUNE 2


REMINDERS


1.HOMEWORK SCHEDULE is as follow;
          Monday and Wednesday : Mrs. Bagley and Mr. Badia
          Tuesday and Thursday : Ms. Saville


2. VOCABULARY WORDS - Words are given in class with definition, but they could be found in the links at the end of this post, in case any student has missed the words.


3.MATERIALS: ALL students need at least 3 sharpened pencils. If they have mechanical pencils, then they need to bring their own lead. 


4.Map of the Month: The first of the last 3 maps was collected May 12, the 2nd map was collected May 26 and students missing maps at this point were reminded that they would be collected this week as well although they are late. The last map was given on Friday May 26 and they will be collected on Thursday June 15. 


5.UPCOMING EVENTS:
-Scholastic book orders are due May 31
-May procession on May 31, students need rosaries 
-June 2, half-day, 12 o clock dismissal 
-June 15- last map of the month is due


6.Scholastic books: Flyers will be sent home periodically for students/parents to order books that they want. If any of the books we will need during the year are listed there I would ask for that book specifically. Otherwise it is a personal choice if you want to order. If you want to order books outside of the time I place  orders you can CLICK HERE TO BE DIRECTED TO SCHOLASTIC WEBSITE and then click on yellow section to connect with teacher and enter class code: LJ8KK. QUIZZES: 
2nd grade reading quiz from Friday is rescheduled for Tuesday  May 30. Look at the post from last week to see the words that need to be reviewed. Also the words with definition are listed in the vocabulary link below. (It was rescheduled due to printer issues and then the administration of the MAP assessment).

4th grade reading quiz on Tuesday May 30  on the following reading words; rights, restrict, qualification, resign, repealed, first-generation. The words with definition are in the notebook and also on the vocabulary link below.

3rd grade social studies quiz on Tuesday May 30  on vocabulary words and notes from 4/24, 5/1 and 5/8.

3rd grade reading quiz on Wednesday May 31 on vocabulary words and comprehension. The vocabulary words with definition are in the vocabulary link below.

2nd and 3rd grade will have a science quiz during the following week. More information will be posted.


8. Students in third and fourth grade have been using Google Classroom very often, please help them remember their username and password. Login information should also be written at home in a safe places along with the login information for Achieve, IXL and I-ready. Although second grade is only using this sometimes, they also have usernames and passwords.

Username:first initial last name @olqmnyc.org. Example; John Smith would be jsmith@olqmnyc.org

Passwords: everyone's password was set to olqmnyc1, but it might be different if your child changed it.

9.ACTION PLAN: Students with action plans need to continue working on the lessons, There are 4 lessons to be completed each week. The lessons are being checked on Monday morning for completion. By May 15, students should have had 20 lessons completed.

HOMEWORK FOR MAY 31 ,2017

Second grade:
-Reading:Read pages 182-183 and answer questions #1-7 from pages 184-186.Make sure to do part A and B (for the questions that have both parts).



Third grade:
Reading:Click here for the homework. You can either print the sheet or just do the work on looseleaf. If you are doing it on looseleaf, then write the numbers of the sentences that you are selecting as details. For the second part, write three details that would support the main stated on the sheet.

Fourth grade:
Reading: Click here for the article that was on your quiz. Many of you did not completely answer the questions. Answer the following questions on looseleaf using evidence from the text.

1.Why did North Carolina and Rhode Island want a Bill of Rights added to the Constitution?

2. Based on this passage, explain why the Bill of Rights would help the Constitution survive over time.

HOMEWORK FOR MAY 22  ,2017

Second grade:
Science:Students received a science quiz back today. Make corrections on looseleaf and get the quiz signed. This will be collected tomorrow.

Reading: Some students are missing Achieve 3000 articles from quarter 4, this week will be the last chance to make those up. If you are unsure if you have done it or not, check cornerstone and it will be marked with 0 if not done. Another way to check is to go to Achieve 3000 and click on the articles which are on the home page. Once you click on activity , it will either show the score , which means it has been done or it will start with a question, which means you are not done. This will be available until Wednesday May 24th.


Third grade:
Reading: Achieve 3000: "Making Cape Town Beaches Shark-Safe" Activity only.



Fourth grade:
Reading: Achieve 3000: "Civil War: Freedom for All" Activity only.





HOMEWORK FOR MAY 24 ,2017

Second grade:
-Reading: Reread "Homes Around the World" from page 178 from the Ready NY book and answer the following questions on looseleaf.
1.What makes homes alike?
2.How do the subheadings in this article make the facts easier to find?

Third grade:
Social Studies:Review notes from notebook from 4/24, 5/1 and 5/8.
Science:  Answer the following question on loose leaf.
1.Why do electromagnets have iron centers?  



Fourth grade:
Social Studies : 4 students from the class have no homework, since they are all caught up on work. Everyone else has to finish work that was marked in their social studies notebook with an orange marker. The text pages to use and the questions are in the link below.

Second grade:
-Students who have not finished the work from class need to finish it tonight. It was to answer question #7 from page 172 on loose leaf.



Third grade:
-Finish your science project slides


Fourth grade:
-Review the notes we went over in class and quiz #1 found on Google classroom
-Reading : On looseleaf answer the following: Is it ever ok to break the law? Why or why not? Write a short statement with your opinion and the reasons that support it.




HOMEWORK FOR MAY 17,2017

Second grade:
-Review the reading vocabulary words that we marked this morning in the reading notebook. These words were written at the end of April. The words are : extinguish, controls, earth'surface,tasks, temperature, heartbeat, operation and medicine. The definitions are in the vocabulary links at the end of this page. Quiz on Friday.

-Read page 174 from the green Ready NY book and complete chart on page 175. For help use the words in the notebook (also found in the link below). Some students did this already in class. Also read page 176 and fill in the first row on page 177. ONLY THE FIRST ROW ( a row goes across)




Third grade:Read pages 176-179 and answer the following questions on looseleaf. Sentence form. no need to copy question.
1.What is an electromagnet?
2.What has to happen to a magnet or to loops of wire to make electricity?

-Review the slides from the project we started today. Tomorrow we will do the actual experiment and record the results and conclusion.




Fourth grade:
-Using the old social studies text book: Read page 180 and answer question #7 and 8 from page 186 under the THINKING ABOUT FACTS SECTION. Do this on looseleaf in sentence form.

-If you were out during social studies make sure to copy the notes that are posted in the link at the end of this post.

2nd, 3rd and 4th grade parents and students!


First, I would like to thank the parents for the gift and cards  for Teacher Appreciation day. All the gifts and cards are greatly appreciated.


Second, to those who received a letter from Mr.Woods or their teachers regarding the Title 1 summer program. The letters are due back to school by Friday May 12 , the latest as they have to be sent back over the weekend. Please make sure to sign them and return with your child. It is extremely that this comes back to school and it is highly suggested that you accept this offer for your child. If you have any questions, you can always me.

Fourth grade:
-Go onto Google classroom and check over your quiz from last week. Make sure you read over the comments I made for the short responses. You will be re-quiz on this material this week on Friday May 12.

-Go onto Google classroom and answer the question posted. You may use your old social studies book that you have at home.
