NEW YORK STATE TEST- 3RD AND 4TH GRADE
STUDENTS IN THE THIRD AND FOURTH GRADE ARE WORKING ON STATE TEST SAMPLES THIS WEEK, AS THE TEST IS NEXT WEEK. BELOW IS THE BREAKDOWN OF THE EXAMS FOR NEXT WEEK.
THIRD GRADE AND FOURTH GRADE.
Day 1: 5 passages and 30 multiple choice questions
Day 2: 1 passage with 7 multiple choice questions and then 2 more passages with 3 short responses and 1 essay.
Day 3: 3 passages, 5 short responses and 1 essay.
* The test is made to be done within 70 minutes.
THIRD GRADE AND FOURTH GRADE.

HOMEWORK FOR MARCH 24, 2014
SECOND GRADE: Students worked on a timeline in class about an event in their life. They are to show it to someone who will read it, the purpose if for the students to see if their writing is clear and understandable. They are to edit the writing and color in their pictures.
THIRD GRADE: Read the story A Fine Day for a Walk and answer questions 26 and 27 and the multiple choice questions ( there is no listening in the state test, the story is being used to practice part two which includes one story, 7 multiple choice questions, 3 short responses and 1 essay.
FOURTH GRADE: Using the text given in class students are answering short response question number 33. This is from part three of an old state exam, therefore it shows students the type of questions that will be used in the test.
* On part three of the state test students are expected to read three passages and answer 5 short response, which requires 2-3 sentences with 2 details and then answer an essay question using details from the passages. This is all expected to be done within an hour.

SECOND GRADE : Define the words from the Story on Lon Po Po ( words are on page 94 of the yellow reading textbook). The definitions are in the back in the glossary. This is to be done in the reading notebook.
THIRD GRADE: Comparing Communities textbook page 157 questions A-D, in sentence form on looseleaf.
FOURTH GRADE: Write a paragraph about the three methods of transportation in NYS according to the notes you have in your social studies notebook and from the textbook. The assignment is the aim from today, but do it on looselaf.

HOMEWORK FOR MARCH 17, 2014
SECOND GRADE: Use the article " Oh Nuts!" and create a 6 sentence summary in paragraph form. Do this on looseleaf. Use complete sentences and details from the article but do not copy sentences from the article.
THIRD GRADE : Read the passage Washington Rides Again and for every paragraph write side notes
(GIST) on the left side and also underline key words. THIS SKILL WAS PRACTICED IN CLASS TODAY AND LAST WEEK.
FOURTH GRADE: Use the passage The Upside of Dyslexia and 1.write notes of the what each paragraph is about on the left 2. underline key details 3. circle unknown words.
REMINDERS
1. All students need to bring at least three sharpened pencils, erasers, and looseleaf.
2. If your child is sick or has allergies please send him/her with tissue ( personal packet of tissue).
3. Homework is posted on the blog when the homework is given. Ms. Saville gives homework on Tuesday and Thursday. Mr.Badia and I give homework on Monday and Wednesday, BUT MATH AND READING HOMEWORK COULD BE GIVEN ANY DAY IF NEED BE.
