Monday, September 16
- HW: SS- Students will have to discuss a tradition they have in their family or one that they would like to get started. Please speak to them about this, so they can contribute in class discussion. Also choose a group from the list we made in class and explain why you like to be part of that group or like being part of the group. On looseleaf in more than 2 sentences, no more than 4.

HW: Explain your tradition , which you shared in class yesterday in writing. Use details.
         Phonics book page: 221- the whole page and in the book.

Friday, September 20
Quiz: Reading quiz covering  covers vocabulary words (check your child's notebook, list of words is in the lesson plan) reading comprehension, vowels, understanding initial , medial and final consonants.

Vocabulary words
1. perseverance: the ability to get through hard times. Ex. Falling of bike and still trying to learn and finally learning.
2. pretended: to act as if something else is happening or of you are someone else.
3. non-fiction: text that tells about a real person, place or thing.
4. fiction: text that tells about something not real.
5. authors purpose: reason for why author wrote the text. Ex. information, entertainment and persuasion.
6. critter: an animal.
7. gadget: small tool or device use to do a task.
8.  robot : a machine with moving parts controlled by a computer.
9. synonyms: words that mean the same thing. Ex. odd, weird and awkward.

- HW: SS- Transfer map of a place using the steps from class onto white paper 8  1/2 x11. Must be neat and use the whole paper.

HW: Reading- create 4 discussion questions based on chapter 3: The Garden from  the story The Stories Julian Tells. On looseleaf and do not answer the questions.

Words to copy in  READING notebook
- plot: the events in a story, includes problem and solution.
- problem: an event that  must be fixed. Usually makes the story.
- Solution: fixes the problem and lead to a happy ending.
- story map: a way to organize the important details of the story. Characters, setting and plot.
- discussion director: a person who creates questions and leads the  discussion in class.

Words to copy for SOCIAL STUDIES notebook
-Government: a group of people who make decisions about a city, state, or country and it's people.
-Economy: the study of how money, goods, and services are made and used.
-Religion: the organized believe system in a God or many Gods practiced by a group of people.
-Shelter: the home people live in. They vary by culture and location.
-dress: The way people dress . Varies by culture and location.
-language: the words or symbols used to express ones thoughts to others. Varies by culture.

Monday, September 16
- HW: Print Native American Myth story from website provided in class and begin research on a constellation. Constellation printout will be use Friday. If your child doesn't have it, classwork will result in zero. * More information will be given about constellations tomorrow.
- SS- the vocabulary words are in the lesson plan and need to be defined using textbook. I will not check as homework, but they need to get to their notebook, so they can study them. There are a lot , so please have your child do some each day. Today we got up to number 9.

2nd, 3rd and 4th grade parents

There are no quizzes this week. All material from this week will be cover on next weeks quiz along with the work from next week. The schedule for quizzes will be as follow;

Fridays- Reading ,ELA, and Math
Mondays- Social Studies, Religion, and Science.

SECOND GRADE
Wear uniform tomorrow. There is no dress down- Nut Card for tomorrow Friday September 13. We will start dress down next Friday.

September 9, 2013- Homework

Second grade
- Using Living in Communities textbook answer question 2 and 3 from page 7. Also do skill check question. All in social studies notebook and it's questions and answers.


Third grade
- Write the following words with definition in your social studies notebook. Finish where you started in class.

North Pole: the farthest place north on the earth.

South Pole: the farthest place south on the earth.

Equator: an imaginary line circling half the earth, halfway between the North pole and the South pole.


Fourth grade
- Write the following words with definition in your social studies notebook. Finish where you started in class.
Ocean:  one of earth  5 largest bodies of water- Arctic, Atlantic, Indian, pacific, and Southern.
* Textbook says 4, but there is 5 since a few years back.

Continent: One of earth's seven great bodies of land- Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America.

Hemisphere: Half a sphere; one of the four hemispheres of Earth- Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western.

Equator: An imaginary line that lies half way between the North pole and the South pole, at 0 zero.

2nd, 3rd and 4th grade parents

3rd and 4th grade

 As posted previously you will need; 

-  2 marble notebooks ( no spiral). One is for social studies and one for reading. 

- You will need 3 folders for me, ( 1 for reading, 1 for social studies and 1 for writing, the writing folder was a change implemented after staff meeting). 
There will be writing implemented in the content areas, mine being social studies and you will need a separate folder to keep you work. All three of these folders will be kept in class. 

- You will need a homework folder to carry between home and school and that could be one folder used for all three teachers. 

- General supplies remain the same and are listed below. 
              -supplies that will be used in class as well as their other classes, DON'T NEED TO BUY TWICE
- pencils- 2 will be collected from each student and stored , in case they find themselves without a pencil in class. These two can be labeled with their name with a piece of tape.
- erasers
- looseleaf- students use a lot of looseleaf as it's used for daily assessments and homework
- sharpeners ( ONLY THE ONES THAT COLLECT THE TRASH INSIDE)
- color pencils or crayons ( no markers)
- glue stick
- bag to keep pencils, erasers and sharpener in
- bag for color pencil or crayons and glue stick
- construction paper- this can be kept at home until told to bring in.

  • A ream of xerox paper ( VERY IMPORTANT)
  • $5 for Superkids white board
