THIRD GRADE

READING VOCABULARY WORDS
1. Locust: any of several grasshoppers that have short antennae and migrate in groups.
2. Conquered: to acquire by force. To gain or win.
3. Ceremony: the formal activity conducted on important occasions (president inauguration), religious purpose (marriage).
4. Cyclone: a large scale of circular motion wind.
5. Petrified: to convert into stone or a stony substance.
6. Whirlwinds: several small masses of air rotating rapidly around over land or sea.

7. sweathouse: a special building among Native Americans used for purifying the body by sweating in which water is poured over heated stones, which produces steam.

READING VOCABULARY WORDS
1. asteroids: small, irregular shaped bodies the orbit the sun.        
 2. opinion: what your thought are on a certain topic. Cannot be right or wrong, but can be worse that someone else's.
3.  boomerang: a bent or curved piece of wood used by Australians to through and meant to return to the thrower.    
 4. permanent: forever.
5. glorious : delighful, joyful and enjoyable.          
 6.reverse: to go backwards or the opposite.
7.  Infer : a guess made on what happened using clues and details.             
 8. sequence: the order in which things happened. Uses the words first, next, then and last.
