* Students will take their social studies final on Tuesday June 14. Use the final review guide to study the necessary material.

Third grade

Social Studies

*The Social studies final will be given on Tuesday June 14, please make sure that you use the final review guide to study.

* On Wednesday the students will start working on a mock campaign to elect a class president for the purpose of practicing the ability to vote. They will need construction paper, color pencils, crayons and /or markers to  create their campaigning tools.

Second grade

* The Social studies final will be given on Tuesday June 14. Please make sure that you look at the final exam review and study.
* Students were requested to bring pictures of important places in the U.S a few weeks ago. If you child has not done so please make sure that they bring it in on Wednesday.

Fourth grade final review for redaing and social studies

Reading

Students are to study the vocabulary words from the following stories:
A. Because of Winn Dixie
B. Lewis, Clark and Me
C. Grandfather's Journey
D. The Horned Toad Prince
E. Letters Home from Yosemite
F. What Jo Did
G. Coyote school news
H. Grace and the time machine
I. So you want to be a president
J. Adelina's Whales
K. How night came from the sea
L. Eye of the storm
M. Sailing home
N. Moonwalk


The definitions are in your child's reading notebook.  Students should also know:*
-cause and effect
-main idea
-fact and opinion
-authors purpose
-sequence
-prefixes and suffixes
- drawing conclusions
-making inferences


* These skills will be tested through answering questions about reading passages.
The students have notes on all the skills above in their reading notebook and they are also in their reading textbook. 

Social Studies 

-Students are to study all their notes located in their notebooks paying close attention to vocabulary words.  The final is covering everything from chapter 1 to 10 and chapter 12. They should be able to answer the following questions;

- name the 5 regions of New York
- know detailed information about the Declaration of independence
- be able to explain in detail the difference between slaves and indentured servants
- know what the state Capital of New York and why is it at that location
-  Explain what the Industrial revolution is and what the effects were
- know who Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Stanton Cady were and what is their importance
- Know all Detail about the Civil War
- Know the importance of Harriet Tubman
- Know the Great Depression
- know the three branches of state government and national government and what they do. 

There will also be a DBQ. Students will answer short questions on several  images and then one main questions involving all images and their knowledge of social studies. 




Third grade final review for reading and social studies

These words are define in your child's reading notebooks. Students should also know what the following words mean: antonyms, synonyms, homonyms and be able to give examples. they have notes in their notebooks. They can also use their phonics book to study this.

- fact and opinion

- drawing conclusions

- compare and contrast

* These skills will be tested through the use of reading passages.


Social Studies


- Students should study all the notes that they have in their notebooks. Specially the vocabulary words and their definition as well as the end of section / chapter questions.


Students should be able to label the component of a map and explain
- what is the use of a  map key?
-why do maps have symbols?
 -name the 7 continents
-name the 4 oceans

- Geographical terms
-  Why is George Washington and Benjamin Franklin important to history
- voting qualifications
- Capital vs. Capitol
- Who the state and local leaders are.
- How the Declaration of Independence came about, when and who was involved. 

There will also be a DBQ. Students will answer short questions on several  images and then one main questions involving all images and knowledge of social studies.  

Second grade final review for reading and social studies

Students are to study the reading vocabulary words from the reading stories we have covered.

 The students should have these words defined in their reading notebooks already. If not these words can be found in the text book and the definitions are in the glossary. A great way to study would be to write the word on one side of an index card and the definition on the other. The notes on the skills covered are in your child's notebook. The skills will be tested on the final through reading comprehension questions using passages read on the test.
The following are the skills that will be covered;

- Main idea
- inflections -ed.
-comparing and contrasting
-alphabetizing by first and second letters
- sequencing of events.
-suffixes: less, ness, ly, er, est.( can use phonics book to reinforce). 
- Fact and opinion
- Making inferences
- cause and effect
- authors purpose
- making predictions
- Narrative elements ( characters, setting(time and place),plot ( problem and solution)

Social Studies  
Students are to study all their notes in their social studies notebooks, including the end of chapter unit questions and the vocabulary words. This is all in their notebooks, if not you can use the textbooks to help your child study.
Students should know the following;
- How to use a picture glossary
- what is a map key
- how people earn and spend money
- Who is Abraham Lincoln , Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King Jr., Susan B. Anthony and George Washington
- how to read and understand a bar graph
- different types of landforms

The test will also include a DBQ in which your child analyzes  pictures, answers short questions on all  and then answers a main questions about all  pictures.
