HW:Read People Together pages 86-87 using a flow chart. Answer page 87 # 1-3 Questions and answers in social studies notebook. ALSO, on looseleaf  create flow chart with 3 steps of getting clothing from factory to home.

Wednesday January 9, 2013
HW: Explain the process of growing apples and getting them into markets.In flow chart form.

HW: Change the following based words into the past tense and present tense.
1. walk
2. talk
3. slip
4. hike
5. turn


Thursday January 10, 2013
HW: Change the following words by adding er and est. On looseleaf.
1. dark
2. fast
3. safe
4. brave
5. grand

Answer the following questions:
What are vowels?
What do we do to a word that ends with a consonant and has a vowel before that when adding an ending?

READING VOCABULARY WORDS
1. summarize: a short retelling of a text using the most important details only.
2. homonyms: words that sound the same and sometimes are spelled the same, but have different meaning. ex. bat ( animal) and bat ( baseball) or see (to look) and sea ( ocean).
3. base word: word that can different endings to change the time the word happened in. ex. walk
4. suffix: word part added to a based word at the end to change the meaning or tense. ex. ed
5. past tense: an action words that occurred in the past, ex. walked
6. present tense: something happening right now. ex. walking
7. distracted: the act of something keeping your attention from something else. ex. loud noise while trying to study.

SOCIAL STUDIES VOCABULARY WORDS
1. farm: a place where crops are grown and animals raised for food consumption.
2. factory: a building where things are made.
3. workers: people who do labor for a company or factory in order to get a paycheck.
4. crops: vegetables and fruit grown in a farm.
5. trade: sending goods to a country and then getting other goods back.
6. transportation: method of moving people or goods/products from one place to another.
7. flow chart: shows the order in which things flow or happen, a sequence chart.
