REMINDERS *Read at the end for reminders about Midterms
1.HOMEWORK SCHEDULE is as follow;

2. VOCABULARY WORDS - Words are given in class with definition, some will be define for homework. As we add reading and social studies words, they will be added to the links below. Check out the links below.
3.MATERIALS: Second graders need at least 3 sharpened pencils.
4.Map of the Month: Map of the month for fourth grade was given before the Christmas vacation and the third grade map of the month was given last week. Maps are due January 25th.
5.UPCOMING EVENTS:
- Half day January 9, No school January 16, and midterms January 17-20.
6.Scholastic books: Flyers will be sent home periodically for students/parents to order books that they want. If any of the books we will need during the year are listed there I would ask for that book specifically. Otherwise it is a personal choice if you want to order. If you want to order books outside of the time I place orders you can CLICK HERE TO BE DIRECTED TO SCHOLASTIC WEBSITE and then click on yellow section to connect with teacher and enter class code: LJ8KK.
7.QUIZZES: Last social studies quiz before Midterms will be on Wednesday January 11 and last reading quiz before midterms will be January 13 (This will be on Google classroom so you can view over the weekend)
8. Students in third and fourth grade have been using Google Classroom very often, please help them remember their username and password. Login information should also be written at home in a safe places along with the login information for Achieve, IXL and I-ready. Although second grade is only using this sometimes, they also have usernames and passwords.
Username:first initial last name @olqmnyc.org. Example; John Smith would be jsmith@olqmnyc.org
Passwords: everyone's password was set to olqmnyc1, but it might be different if your child changed it.

Social Studies textbook "Comparing Communities" page 164. "Remembering What You Read" section # 1-4. Questions and answers.
THIRD GRADE:
Social Studies textbook "New York Social Studies". Read pages 42-43 and copy and answer the following questions on looseleaf.
1.What groups have contributed to Mexican Culture?
2.What role does religion play in Mexican culture?
FOURTH GRADE:
Social Studies textbook "New York". Read pages 100-105 and answer questions #1-2 from page 105 on looseleaf.
1. What would be the result if worldwide laws were passed to protect animal habitats?
2.Give an example of something that can be done to help keep endangered animals from becoming extinct.
3.What is one way that humans affect animal populations?
Second grade vocabulary:shallow, refraction, mirror, introduction, conclusion.
Third grade vocabulary:concentric, frantically, peddlers, wares and humble.
Fourth grade vocabulary:( If dont have them all , they are in the midterm guide with definition): camouflage, mimicry,summarize , exoskeleton, ooze, Venomous, Predators, supporting detail and toxin.
