REMINDERS, LESSON PLANS, HOMEWORK AND VOCABULARY WORDS FOR WEEK OF FEBRUARY 6-10

REMINDERS


1.HOMEWORK SCHEDULE is as follow;
          Monday and Wednesday : Mrs. Bagley and Mr. Badia
          Tuesday and Thursday : Ms. Saville
*Tuesday Third grade will be receiving homework in either reading, science or social studies.

2. VOCABULARY WORDS - Words are given in class with definition, but they could be found in the links at the end of this post, in case any student has missed the words.


3.MATERIALS: Second graders need at least 3 sharpened pencils. 


4.Map of the Month: New map of the month will be given this week. 

5.UPCOMING EVENTS:

- 3:15 dismissal starts today to accommodate the hour and a half of math a day.  

6.Scholastic books: Flyers will be sent home periodically for students/parents to order books that they want. If any of the books we will need during the year are listed there I would ask for that book specifically. Otherwise it is a personal choice if you want to order. If you want to order books outside of the time I place  orders you can CLICK HERE TO BE DIRECTED TO SCHOLASTIC WEBSITE and then click on yellow section to connect with teacher and enter class code: LJ8KK. 

7.
QUIZZES: Due to my administration of the I-ready exam to 2nd grade, 3rd and 4th were unable to take their reading quiz. It will be given Monday February 6. Social studies quiz for 3rd and 4th to Tuesday February 7.In sticking with Mr. Badia's science quiz schedule, I will administer science quizzes on Thursday for 2nd and 3rd grade. 


8. Students in third and fourth grade have been using Google Classroom very often, please help them remember their username and password. Login information should also be written at home in a safe places along with the login information for Achieve, IXL and I-ready. Although second grade is only using this sometimes, they also have usernames and passwords.

Username:first initial last name @olqmnyc.org. Example; John Smith would be jsmith@olqmnyc.org

Passwords: everyone's password was set to olqmnyc1, but it might be different if your child changed it.

SECOND GRADE: 
Science:Copy the following notes into your science notebook.

Day and Night : How does earth rotate?
-Earth spins, or rotates, like a top.
-Earth always spins in the same direction.
-Earth's axis in an imaginary line that goes from the North Pole to the South Pole.

What is the sun like?
As the earth rotates, the sun shines on it.
The sun in the closest star to earth. 



THIRD GRADE: 
Reading: Read chapter 6 from Carnival at Candlelight and complete both sides of the worksheet.




FOURTH GRADE:
Social Studies:Using the old textbook read pages 115-116 and answer the following questions on looseleaf. Use sentences starters from the following in your responses. 
(In the text....., According to the text....,I know this because...."

1.Why was the Declaration of Independence an important statement for our country?

2.Suppose you are a patriot, explain why you think the colonies should be free from Britain.

SECOND GRADE: 
Reading:


THIRD GRADE: 
Social Studies: Reread pages 168-169 and answer the following questions on looseleaf. Use the sentence starters  "According to the text..., In the book it says..., "

1.What religions are part of Italian culture?
2.What holidays are celebrated in Italy? Explain them in culture. 

Science:Copy the following key points in your notebook and review them along with the definition of insulators and conductors. 

How Heat Travels
-The temperature of an object is a measure of how hot or cold an object is.
-Heat is a form of energy that makes matter warmer.
-Temperature is measured in units called degrees.
-Friction, the rubbing of two objects together causes heat (rise in temperature)



FOURTH GRADE:
Reading: Copy and paste the events in sequence order on the paper provided.
