REMINDERS, LESSON PLANS, HOMEWORK AND VOCABULARY WORDS FOR WEEK OF MARCH 13-17

REMINDERS


1.HOMEWORK SCHEDULE is as follow;
          Monday and Wednesday : Mrs. Bagley and Mr. Badia
          Tuesday and Thursday : Ms. Saville


2. VOCABULARY WORDS - Words are given in class with definition, but they could be found in the links at the end of this post, in case any student has missed the words.


3.MATERIALS: ALL students need at least 3 sharpened pencils. If they have mechanical pencils, then they need to bring their own lead. 


4.Map of the Month: Will be given out on Monday March 13 and will be due Friday March 31.

5.UPCOMING EVENTS:

-Half a day on Monday March 13. Dismissal at 12 O'clock.
-Some students will be Baptiste on Thursday March 16- parents welcome
-No school on Friday March 17 due to Saint Patrick's Day
-ELA State Exam will be the last week of March.  

6.Scholastic books: Flyers will be sent home periodically for students/parents to order books that they want. If any of the books we will need during the year are listed there I would ask for that book specifically. Otherwise it is a personal choice if you want to order. If you want to order books outside of the time I place  orders you can CLICK HERE TO BE DIRECTED TO SCHOLASTIC WEBSITE and then click on yellow section to connect with teacher and enter class code: LJ8KK. QUIZZES: 
4th grade social studies on Tuesday March 14, 2017- Check out the vocabulary and notes link at the end for notes.




8. Students in third and fourth grade have been using Google Classroom very often, please help them remember their username and password. Login information should also be written at home in a safe places along with the login information for Achieve, IXL and I-ready. Although second grade is only using this sometimes, they also have usernames and passwords.

Username:first initial last name @olqmnyc.org. Example; John Smith would be jsmith@olqmnyc.org

Passwords: everyone's password was set to olqmnyc1, but it might be different if your child changed it.

Science: Watch the following video. Click here for video and answer the following questions. 
1.How long does it take the moon to rotate around the earth?
2.About how many kilometers is the moon away from the earth?
3.What happen in 1969 on the moon?

*Study for science --Vocabulary words: revolution, seasons, equator, orbit


THIRD GRADE:
Science: Complete worksheet on Electrical circuit.

Social Studies: Review words for quiz: resort, tourist, extinctarchaeologist, service jobs




FOURTH GRADE:
Social Studies:Answer the following questions on loose leaf and study the notes provided about the American Revolution
1.Why was  the Battle of Saratoga important for the American soldiers?
2.How were the British defeated at the Battle of Yorktown?

HOMEWORK FOR March 15, 2017

SECOND GRADE:
Reading: Click here for the story you need to read. After reading it answer the following questions  on looseleaf in sentence form. 
1.What is the lesson that the Stonecutter learns?
2.At the end of the story why did he want to be nobody else but himself?


THIRD GRADE: 
Reading:Complete a reading comprehension under the "extra lesson " tab on I-ready. I will assign the lesson to the class, it will posted on Wednesday afternoon, to assure it is done for homework , not during in class I-ready time. Lesson will be "Compare and Contrast Stories"



FOURTH GRADE:
Reading:Complete a reading comprehension under the "extra lesson " tab on I-ready. I will assign the lesson to the class, it will posted on Wednesday afternoon, to assure it is done for homework , not during in class I-ready time. The lesson is "Story Structure" its about 30  minutes long.
