REMINDERS

1. STUDENTS IN  THIRD AND  FOURTH GRADE WILL BE TAKING THE ELA STATE EXAM THIS WEEK. STARTING ON TUESDAY APRIL 14-APRIL 16. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD HAS AT LEAST THREE NUMBER 2 PENCILS. NO MECHANICAL PENCILS, BECAUSE TEACHERS WILL NOT HAVE EXTRA LEAD AND WILL NOT DISTURB OTHERS TO GET LEAD.

2. There was spring break vacation homework. It is due when your child returns back to school.

VOCABULARY WORDS

READING

1. cause:the reason why something happens.
2. effect: what happens.
4. base word: word that can be used alone and can be used with suffixes to change meaning. Example; park or help
5. suffix: small word part added at the end of the word to change the meaning. Example: er, ing, ed. park becomes parking, or help becomes helper.

SOCIAL STUDIES
1. democratic:having to do with equality for all  people.
2. jury system: system where 12 people listen to facts and determine if someone is guilty or not.
3. trial:a formal examination of information by a judge, lawyers and jurors to decide if someone is guilty or not.
4.court: the place where the trial takes place.
5. judge: a person who decides court cases.
6. lawyer/attorney: a person who studies law.
7. verdict: the final decision made by the jury; either guilty or not guilty.
8. jurors: people who are part of the jury.

1. frontier: the edge of a settles area.
2. Big Tree Treaty: agreement in which the Senecas sold nearly all their land to the Holland Land Company.
3. War of 1812: a war between the United States and Great Britain.
4. Treaty of Ghent: the treaty signed in 1814 by the United States and Great Britain that ended the war of 1812.
