REMINDERS, HOMEOWRK, VOCABULARY AND LESSON PLANS FOR WEEK OF FEBRUARY 9-13

REMINDERS

1.On Friday, there is a 12 O' Clock dismissal. It is also red day in celebration of Valentines day, please have your child wear a red item. The eight grade will also have a bake sale- please send some money with them. 

2. Vocabulary is below. Make sure your child copies them into their respective notebook when assigned.

3. There is a new gym schedule, SECOND GRADE will have gym on Fridays from now on. For third and fourth grade look at their homeroom teacher's blog. 

4. On Tuesday February 17, students in SECOND GRADE can dress up as a "super kid" to participate in Superkids Day ! - Look at their workbook, for ideas as to how to dress them for this day. 


HOMEWORK FOR FEBRUARY 9 2015

SECOND GRADE: copy the reading and vocabulary words into their notebooks. Superkids workbook page 31. 


THIRD GRADE: 
copy the reading and vocabulary words into their notebooks. Search and read information on Cesar Chavez- make some notes that can be useful along with the notes you have in your notebook for your writing piece. 

FOURTH GRADE: CLICK HERE FOR HOMEWORK- This can be printed and completed or the writing section can be copied and completed on looseleaf. 

* ALL STUDENTS SHOULD READ BETWEEN 15-30 MINUTES EACH NIGHT.

THIRD GRADE: Read the following information about the Aztecs and answer the questions that follow on looseleaf. CLICK HERE FOR AZTEC INFORMATION

1. How did the Mexican Flag get its symbol? 
2. How did life differ for boys and girls? 


FOURTH GRADE: Read pages 12-19 from History Happened Here 

* ALL STUDENTS SHOULD READ BETWEEN 15-30 MINUTES EACH NIGHT.
*FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS WILL BE READING BECAUSE OF WINN DIXIE , DUE TO THE PAGE SET UP FOR EBOOKS AND THE FACT THAT NOT ALL STUDENTS WOULD HAVE THE SAME DEVICE, I WOULD LIKE THE STUDENTS TO GET THE ACTUAL BOOK.  I WILL ORDER THE BOOK TO BE HERE WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER ORDERING. I AM ASKING FOR $6 AND BY TUESDAY FEBRUARY 17. 


VOCABULARY WORDS

SECOND GRADE:

-READING 
1. immigration:moving of non-native people into a country.
2. bewildered: confused
3.homeland:country that is your home; native place
4. longed:wished very much; desired greatly
5. marveled: to look at something with admiration (great likeness)

SOCIAL STUDIES 
1. Saint Valentine: a Roman Saint known for going against the Roman rule Claudius II. 
2. Claudius II: Roman rule who ordered Saint Valentine to be jailed and then put to death.
3. Marriage: a union between two people who profess love, respect and companionship. 
4. executed: be put to death. 

THIRD GRADE:
-READING
1. creative: having the ability to create; resulting from originality of thought, expression
2. inventive: having the ability of creating through imagination 
3. heroes: someone with heroic abilities; such as courageous.
4. suffix: word part added to the end of a word , to change its meaning.
5. notable:important or distinguished.
6. 20th century: a time period between January 1, 1901 and December 31, 2000. 
7. expansion: the act of making something larger.

-SOCIAL STUDIES

1. archaeologist: people who study past human life by examining artifacts left by ancient people. 
2. vision: something that is imagine of dreamed about
3. empire: a large group pf states under the rule of one person. 
4. noble: from high-ranking family
5. tribute: a gift to a king or God
6. glyph: picture symbols
7. allies: group of people who join together for a common cause
8. mesoamerica: a word used by archaeologist that describes the region and cultures in Mexico and part of Central America before the Spanish conquest 


FOURTH GRADE:
-READING
1. Pronounce: saying a word aloud. 
2. Summarize: a short retelling of a text using only the key details. 
3. Shifted: to move from one place to another. 
4. William Shakespeare: English dramatist and poet from the 1500's. 
5. Elaborate: to add details ; to expand 
6. Complex: made up of many parts that connect 
7. Rebellion: to go against tradition; defiance of authority
8. Accelerated: to cause faster
9. Missile: an object or weapon for throwing or shooting such as a stone, bullet or arrow.
10. Manufacture: the making of good or wares by manual labor. 

-SOCIAL STUDIES 

1.Declaration of Indepedence: document where the rights of the people was outlined.
2. Thomas Jefferson: write of the Declaration of Independence
*Since the last time students copied vocabulary words , they had 16 words , there are no new words this week. We are still working with those words.
