REMINDERS, HOMEWORK, VOCABULARY WORDS AND LESSON PLANS FOR WEEK OF FEBRUARY 23-27

REMINDERS

1. When homework is assigned on IXL- it is checked and graded. Not logging on or logging on and doing anything counts as a zero. 

2. Make sure students have pencils, erasers and all necessary daily materials. Please check their backpack every night for these supplies.

3. Fourth grade parents read below the homework section for information about a book needed for class. 





HOMEWORK FOR FEBRUARY 23, 2015

-SECOND GRADE: Copy the vocabulary words if you have not done so from last week and then review them.


-THIRD GRADE: Search for information on the person  you are working on. Bring the information either printed out or save on a tablet  (if you can, if not write the information you will use down) and we will work on it in class.
FOR THE PROJECT YOU NEED
-Information on early life
-what they did that is important
-Why they are important now/celebrated ( think about what would not be possible without them)
-pictures with captions on a poster board.
*Some students are working in groups and others choose to work alone. This is due Thursday.

-FOURTH GRADE: Review pages 148-149 from social studies textbook and answer the Reviewing the Skill questions #1-4. In sentence form on looseleaf.

*FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS WILL BE READING BECAUSE OF WINN DIXIE , DUE TO THE PAGE SET UP FOR E-BOOKS AND THE FACT THAT NOT ALL STUDENTS WOULD HAVE THE SAME DEVICE, I WOULD LIKE THE STUDENTS TO GET THE ACTUAL BOOK.  I WILL ORDER THE BOOK TO BE HERE WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS AFTER ORDERING. I AM ASKING FOR $6 AND HAVE EXTENDED THE DATE FOR TUESDAY FEBRUARY 24.

-SECOND GRADE: Answer the 3 questions on Rosa Parks.
1. Who is Rosa Parks?
2. What did she do that was important? 
3. Why do we remember her?
* Use the notes from class as well as any information you find online at home. Also draw a picture or print one and place it on the top portion of the ice cream paper.

-THIRD GRADE: Continue working on the project- Bring materials to class tomorrow , to finish.

VOCABULARY WORDS 
-SECOND GRADE- These were last weeks words and we are still using them. Students need to copy them in their notebooks and review them at home.

READING

  1. vitriol: oil that can cause burns.
  2. warehouse: place to store products for later use or sales.
  3. beckoned: to signal someone with arm or hand to come closer.
  4. pry: to look closely at something
  5. quilt: a bed cover with stitched designs.

SOCIAL STUDIES
     1. homeland: native land
     2.  nomads: people who move around from place to place.
     3.  contributions: things that were given up for something else.
     4. ordeal: an experience or event that was difficult or did not go well.
     5. melting pot: mixing of different people from different places.
     6. ancestors:people who came before you in your family.
     7. Constitution:the system of laws and beliefs by which this country is made from.
     8.  Bill of Rights: a document that has the rights that people have by law in the Unites States.


-THIRD GRADE

READING
1.

SOCIAL STUDIES
1. Greece:country in southern Europe.
2. Athens: the capital of Greece
3. Abolish: to get rid of; to end
4. prime minister: the most important minister in the executive branch (presidential) of government.

-FOURTH GRADE

READING
1. extinction: the act of disappearing forever.
2. poaching: illegal hunting, killing or capturing of wild animals.
3. exported: shipping goods out of the port of a country.
4. lyric poem: a type of poetry that can express thoughts and feelings, often have stanzas and sometimes has rhyme.
5.annual: once a year.
6.self-effacing: someone who does not like to call attention to him or herself.; modest, humble of shy.

SOCIAL STUDIES 
1. fact: a statement that can be proven true.
2. opinion: a statement that is someone thoughts or believes.
