REMINDERS, HOMEWORK, LESSON PLANS AND VOCABULARY WORDS FOR WEEK OF MAY 9-

REMINDERS


1.HOMEWORK SCHEDULE is as follow;
          Monday and Wednesday : Mrs. Bagley and Mr. Badia
          Tuesday and Thursday : Ms. Saville

2. VOCABULARY WORDS - Words will be given in  class with definition, some will be define for homework. Below are links for each grade vocabulary words for module 4. 


3.FOLDERS: folders with reading and social studies work from quarter 3 were sent home on Friday April 22. Please go through the folder with your child and save test and quizzes that will be helpful when studying for the final exams in June.


4.Map of the Month was given out on Monday April 25th and will be due May 18th. 


5.UPCOMING EVENTS: May 20th is half a day. 12 o'clock dismissal.


6.Scholastic books: If you ever want to order books for your child from scholastic outside of the time I place orders, you can use the following code; PK9XQ. This will have the book orders sent to school , also it helps us earn points /books for students to borrow.

HOMEWORK FOR MAY 9, 2016


SECOND GRADE:


1.Study reading vocabulary words for quiz tomorrow. The following words are going to be on the quiz (key details, railroad bridge, dashed, stranded, island, bongo drums, operation, platform, harness, recount, bongo drums, fable, hunters and lasso). These words are defined in the students notebook from class time and can also be found in the bottom of the post at the vocabulary section.


2.Start planning your social studies project: All About Taxes book.Create a book about taxes. The guideline is as follow.
A.Book cover: Include title and your name

B.Table of content: Page numbers and what the reader will find on that page. Every section should have their own page. The sections are listed below.

C.Included in your book ; what are taxes?, What kinds of taxes are there?, what do we do with taxes money collected at different levels of government (local ,state, national/federal)? , What are the steps taken to prepare for tax day? , fun facts about taxes. 

D.Along with the information in each section, include pictures to match the information. Use the notes in your notebook along with information you can research at home.

THIRD GRADE:

1.Study reading vocabulary words for quiz tomorrow. The following words are going to be on the quiz (character traits, catalog, fastened, figs, knob, vivid, excerpt). These words are defined in the students notebook from class time and can also be found in the bottom of the post at the vocabulary section.



2.Work on the map of the month "Mexico and Central America" - due May 18 (Map was given to EVERYONE).

FOURTH GRADE:

1.Work on the map of the month - due May 18 (EVERYONE RECEIVED A MAP)

2.Study for social studies quiz tomorrow: Chapter 9 from book (use vocabulary words and notes given about the chapter). Words to study from chapter 9 are listed in the link below starting with rural- tenement.

SECOND GRADE:

1.Social studies:Achieve 3000: Complete activity and  though question using "Civil War and Reconstructions: The Words of the War" (This was started in class , so some students may have finished.

2.Complete Achieve 3000 article "A Hero Has His Days" both activity and though question.

2.Study social studies vocabulary words (representatives, amendment, anxious, facility, resident, mammal, scientist words can be found in the post below if not in the notebook) and also notes about what we do with taxes , when are taxes due. 

 THIRD GRADE:

1.Social studies: Read the article "Dropping Pennies" on Achieve 3000 and answer the following questions on looseleaf.
A.Why is Canada getting rid of the penny?
B. How are stores helping get rid of the penny?
C.America does not want to get rid of pennies, so what do they plan to do instead?

2.Study social studies vocabulary words (coastline, regions and lowlands and the printout pages on Canada- quiz tomorrow Thursday May 12. 


FOURTH GRADE:

1.Study reading vocabulary words (restricted, qualification, repealed, primary source, indictment, exercised, lawful, devoting, picketing and venture) These words are defined in the students notebook from class time and can also be found in the bottom of the post at the vocabulary section.


2.FOR FRIDAY : Study social studies  vocabulary words (suspension bridge, hydroelectric power, Allies, Central Powers , Neutral, amendment, Great Migration, and Harlem Renaissance) and notes from the section where these words are being covered.

3.Social Studies: Read pages 248-250 and answer the following questions on looseleaf.
A.What was the Great Depression?
B.How did Roosevelt promise to help the people?
