REMINDERS, LESSON VOCABULARY, HOMEWORK AND VOCABULARY WORDS FOR WEEK OF OCTOBER 24-28

REMINDERS


1.HOMEWORK SCHEDULE is as follow;
          Monday and Wednesday : Mrs. Bagley and Mr. Badia
          Tuesday and Thursday : Ms. Saville

2. VOCABULARY WORDS - Words are given in class with definition, some will be define for homework. As we add reading and social studies words, they will be added to the links below. Check out the link s below.


3.MATERIALS: Some second grade students are still missing notebooks. Please make sure your child has 6 different notebooks. 


4.Map of the Month  are for  third and fourth grade only.  


5.UPCOMING EVENTS:Halloween party on October 31.Students should bring 2 bags of candy (one to distribute to the Pre-k and K students who parade on our floor and the other to distribute to their classmates). For THIRD GRADERS ONLY look below the homework - other grades look at your homeroom teacher's blog.


6.Scholastic books: Flyers will be sent home periodically for students/parents to order books that they want. If any of the books we will need during the year are listed there I would ask for that book specifically. Otherwise it is a personal choice if you want to order. If you want to order books outside of the time I place  orders you can CLICK HERE TO BE DIRECTED TO SCHOLASTIC WEBSITE and then click on yellow section to connect with teacher and enter class code: LJ8KK

7.GYM is on Tuesday for 4th graders, Thursday for 3rd graders and Friday for 2nd graders.


8.EXTENDED DAY:    Monday -4th grade with Mr.Pacido(math)
                                   Wednesday-4th grade with me (reading)
                                   Wednesday -3rd grade with Mr.Badia (math)
                                   Thursday -3rd grade with me (reading)



9. QUIZZES:
Monday October 24
2nd grade: Review social studies notes on maps and review how to read a map using the textbook. Also review rules and laws.
3rd grade: Review reading vocabulary words and using the RAPP method to answer question; notice, norms, record, motivation, detail, evidence, rumpled, sapling, slump, and informative. 

Tuesday October 25
3rd grade: Review social studies notes on Mexico's geography and climate. Also vocabulary words: Hispanic country, inexpensive, passenger, land formation, rain forest and climate.

Friday October 28
3rd grade:Reading vocabulary words; flourish, Taliban, close reading, frantic, Allah, dialect, Appalachian, rural, and excerpt.
4th grade: Social studies words; environment, renewable, nonrenewable, conservation, primary source, secondary source, archaeologist, prehistory, hunter-gatherer, and notes about the first people in New York.

SECOND GRADE: 
Social Studies:On looseleaf copy and answer the following questions. 
1. Who is the major of New York City? 
2. Who is the governor of New York State? 
3.Who is the council member for district 10? 
*District 10 covers Washington Heights , Inwood and Marble Hill 

THIRD GRADE:
Social Studies:Answer the though question on Achieve for "Mexico Has a New Leader"on Achieve 3000. 

FOURTH GRADE:
Social Studies: Social studies textbook 


HOMEWORK FOR OCTOBER 26, 2016

SECOND GRADE: 
Reading: Read pages 12-17 from social studies textbook and answer the "What Do You Think"question on looseleaf. 
*Due to the interim assessments that the students have been taking, I have not administer the social studies quiz on map vocabulary and reading a map skills. Students are to continue reviewing and hopefully it can be administer by the end of the week. 

Social Studies: Thought questions for the Achieve3000 article done in class. 

THIRD GRADE:
Reading:  Read and answer the questions on worksheet #1 

Social Studies: Continue working on Map of the Month of North America- It is due October 31. 

FOURTH GRADE:
Reading: Read and answer the questions on worksheet #20
*New Map of the Month and it will be due in November. Check back for the exact date. 

Social Studies:Review the notes and vocabulary words for social studies quiz on Friday. 


HALLOWEEN PARTY!
Third graders bring in $3 for pizza party. Also 2 bags of candy(one for the younger kids that will be trick O treating on our floor and the other to share with their classmates). If you are sending in pre-made goody bags for the kids in the class , then you only have to bring 1 bag of candy.  By the weeks ends I will add what snacks the students to bring by table.
