READING QUIZ FOR TOMORROW

SECOND GRADE 
1. AUTHOR: the person who wrote a text. 
2. PURPOSE: the reason for something. 
3. PERSUADE: to convince someone to do something. Ex. Commercial
4. INFORM: to give information. Usually non-fiction. ex. science/social studies textbook. 
5. ENTERTAIN: to make enjoyable or be fun. Ex. Frog and Toad
6. RANCH: a large farm for raising animals. 
7.CATTLE: cows 
8.CHAPS:leather item that goes over the pants and buckles covering the legs.  
9.SPURS: a metal piece worn on the back of cowboy boots to direct the horse. 
10. segregation: the act of separating people based on race. religion, etc. 
11.desegregation: the act of ending segregation.  
12.Ruby Bridge: known as the first African American child to attend an all-white school after desegregation
13.New Orleans: the biggest city in the state of Louisiana.  Ruby lived here when she went to school.
